Peppermint Fudge Chocolate Bars (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
02 - 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
03 - 1/4 cup butter
04 - 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
05 - 6 mini candy canes, crushed (optional)

# Instructions:

01 - Combine the sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, and butter in a medium-sized glass bowl. Heat in the microwave for 90 seconds, stir to combine, and heat for another 15 seconds if needed. Alternatively, melt the mixture using a double boiler on the stovetop.
02 - Stir the peppermint extract into the melted mixture until smooth.
03 - Scoop the mixture onto a parchment-lined tray and spread it with a spatula to approximately 1-inch thickness.
04 - Top with crushed candy canes, if desired. Chill in the refrigerator until firm and ready to serve.
05 - Slice the fudge into squares and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

# Notes:

01 - Measure peppermint extract carefully to avoid overpowering the flavor. Do not measure over the mixing bowl to prevent accidental spills.
02 - For a smooth texture, skip the crushed candy canes. Half the batch can be topped with crushed candy while the other half remains plain.
