Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and use a spoon to break up the meat. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes until fully cooked through. Drain excess grease. Add taco seasoning, stir, and cook for 60 to 90 seconds.

Pour in water and add refried beans. Stir together and cook until heated through. Keep warm.

Layer the tortilla chips on a baking sheet or oven-safe dish. Sprinkle 2 cups of cheese over the chips, then dot with the beef and bean mixture. Top with the remaining 2 cups of cheese.

Place the dish in the oven and bake for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted.

Remove from the oven and add desired additional toppings, such as sour cream, guacamole, salsa, or olives. Serve warm and enjoy.
