First, peel, core, and cut your apples into thick slices. Toss the slices gently with some lemon juice to keep them fresh-looking while you prepare things.

Place a heavy skillet (like cast iron) on medium heat and let the butter melt until it smells nutty and starts bubbling.

Drop the apple slices into the skillet. Scatter the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt over the top. Stir it all up so the apples get nicely covered.

Pop a lid over the pan and let the apples simmer for about 15 minutes. Stir every once in a while. They’re done when soft, golden, and caramelized.
